Exploring our Humanity: Book Club meets Reflexive Practice!

We are very excited to announce the launch of a monthly gathering grounded in reflexive practice to help us deepen our efforts to create change in our communities.

Transformative social change requires us to shift our relationship with ourselves and with the systems and people we are in relation with. It requires a continuous process of unlearning and learning, of deep examination of our values, principles, and the mental models that shape how we view and interact with the world.

Mental Models: deeply held beliefs and assumptions and taken-for-granted ways of operating that influence how we think, what we do, and how we talk - FSG

For us to truly create a deep sense of belonging in our communities, and bring about just futures, we believe this inner work is an essential practice. This is particularly true for those of us who are settlers on stolen lands.

Exploring our Humanity seeks to be a space, and to build a community, for people who share in this vision for creating just futures.

Each month we will come together virtually in community to hold space for ourselves and one another on our own explorations of our humanities, and how we are shifting not only how we move through the world, but how we shape the future.

Each gathering will have three interconnected components:

We have identified the first ten pieces of literature that will be explored, with the first being Falling Back in Love with Being Human by Kai Cheng Thom in December 2023. Future additions will be made together as a group.

You can see upcoming dates for Exploring our Humanity on our Gatherings page, and sign up to join us here:

We look forward to being in community with you,
